In 1982, Backflow Prevention Specialists, Inc. (BPS) was started by Charles
(Charlie) Bennett and his wife Carol Bennett. Charlie was one of the first
backflow assembly testers to ever be certified by the California-Nevada
Section of the American Water Works Association (CA-NV AWWA). His
dedication to his profession and his passion for helping clients was
unsurpassed. He empathized, educated, and worked with his clients, striving
to be an invaluable resource to them. When Charlie and Carol's son Benjamin (Ben) was only 14 years old, Charlie began to bring Ben out into the field with him. Ben began his career cleaning the shop, assisting with backflow repairs and installations, and, eventually at age 16, becoming the youngest backflow assembly tester certified by CA-NV AWWA. In 2003, Charlie unexpectedly passed away and Ben stepped in to lead the business with his wife Teena. Recognizing the importance of protecting drinking water quality, Ben began to closely work with regulatory authorities around the San Francisco Bay Area as well as the public to raise awareness of backflow protection and improve local programs. Ben has chaired the CA-NV AWWA Section Committee for Cross-Connection Control Program Specialist Certification and Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification. In 2008, Ben started Water Industry Training Specialists, Inc. (WITS). As an International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) provider for continuing education, WITS provides training for water industry professionals. Together, Ben and Teena have united a team of specialists who share a passion in working with clients and each other to achieve long lasting relationships. Our intention is to be an invaluable resource to our clients who resolve to protect their tenants, employees and families from waterborne illness or death due to a backflow incident. |
